Finished Painting!

Final Drawing stage. I now have the composition ready for color.

The early stage. The canvas has been primed and textured and I am laying in the darks.

I love this photo taken by my wife, it captures movement and light and will make a great starting point for a painting.

Almost complete- I add more dark yellow and black to complete the piece.

After the first application of yellow is dry I add another and bring in some darker yellow tones as well.

I now begin applying yellow with a brush while spraying with water. Making sure to keep this layer very thin.

After allowing the water to dry I go over a few spots with more black acrylic and charcoal. I working to define the composition.

At this point I begin to spray the painting with water to bring together the acrylic and charcoal. This creates movement and adds depth.

I continue with the black acrylic and charcoal.

I continue with the black acrylic and begin to darken the charcoal drawing.

My support for this painting is 300lb paper torn from a 30 foot roll. I begin with a light charcoal drawing and begin adding black acrylic to create the movement.

The idea for this painting - what does a dance floor look like from a swinging chandelier. I made several sketches before settling on this one as my starting point.
